May 15, 1944 - Feb. 20, 2012
She was initiated in 1969 as one of the first Margiis in America. From then on, she moved back and forth between USA, India, Canada, Singapore, and the Middle East. She passed away due to cancer in a hospice in Germany on Feb. 20.
She composed many devotional songs, most notably “O Baba Mine”, which she sang in front of Baba at Cochin DMC in December 1971. She was totally dedicated to Baba and His mission.
Ga'yattrii had extensive contact with Baba, as her family came to India every year to be with Him. When Baba toured Jamaica in 1979, she personally cooked for him. She was always bubbling with Baba stories based on her personal experiences.
Ga'yattrii had a burning zeal to help the suffering humanity and destroy the demons in human form. She fought with dexterity and without compromise for her convictions and her understanding of BÁBÁ'S Ideology. She didn't yield to any opposition and was convinced that Prout's key principles of economic decentralization as well as creation of cooperative commonwealths in every region of the world can solve the present economic depression. She had a BA in Journalism and MA in Integrative Studies, both of which enabled her to write on a large variety of topics. In her writings, she invariably sought solutions to problems besetting today's world, be they economic, social, cultural or moral issues.
Ga'yattrii was involved in publishing the Rennaisance Universal Journal from 1980 until 1987; each issue featured one article by Baba and peer-reviewed papers. Ga'yattrii became a pillar of the accelerated-translations project that started in 2005. Part of the strategy that succeeded in speeding up the pace of new translations was to divide up the different phases of the work. She and her son Ta'raka used their English skills to give readability to the manuscripts, typically after two rounds of translation and prior to final verification. She worked on virtually all of the eighteen books newly translated in the last six-and-a-half years.
Ga'yattrii founded the World Prout Assembly with the theme, Economy of the people, by the people and for the people! Put Economic Power in the Hands of the People! Moralists of the World-Unite! Under the banner of the World Prout Assembly, in May 2008, she organized "Building a New World" conference at Radford University (Virginia) that brought many progressive speakers. This article at the New River Voice demonstrates how many influential people she was able to inspire.
Ga'yattrii authored the following books:
Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar: Beacon of Hope for Suffering Humanity, 2011
Wife Abuse: Breaking It Down and Breaking Out, 2009
The Gujarat Genocide: A Case Study in Fundamentalist Cleansing, 2006
She also wrote the following articles, among many others:
"From Globalization to Localization: Bringing Kentucky out of Poverty," World Prout Assembly,
"From Humanism to NeoHumanism," PROUT Globe,
"The Fall of the American Empire and the Rise of a New Economy," PROUT Globe
"Women at the Mercy of Globalization - With Localization and PROUT Cooperatives the Solution" World Prout Assembly
"Ruthless Economic Austerity Measures: Crushing Exploitation of the European People – But For How Long?", 2010-06-01
"Pre-Emptive Invasion and International Law," 2005-12-13
"The Rights of Prisoners and International Law", 2005-10-30
In January 2010, Ga'yattrii founded the NGO “Hearts Healing Hunger” with global headquarters in Denver, Colorado, USA and with feeding programs in Hyderabad and Siliguri, India. The first and foremost goal of Hearts Healing Hunger is to feed the hungry people everywhere. She believed that with the combination of financial collapse and climate change, this work will be critical in the coming years.
Ga'yattrii maintained two busy yahoo lists (margii collective and BABAs dream). During her last years, she had neglected her health and well-being, while being dedicated to serve BÁBÁ.
Ga'yattrii was a humanitarian scholar and musician. But, above all, she set a very high standard of devotion and dedication to Baba and His mission. She was and still is a source of inspiration for many by setting an outstanding personal example. We will all miss her so much!

COMMENTS:
Her last days in Weingarten, Germany, were truly amazing. Brother Divyám'shu wrote:
“I got overwhelmingly positive feedback and help from the therapists and nurses (some of them colleagues and friends of mine) with many incidents of BÁBÁ'S direct interventions. She was treated mostly free of charge. One doctor in the hospital who was consulted on her case expressed his gratitude to have met such an extraordinary woman with a deep-rooted faith and without any fear of death. Gáyattrii had told him that she will be happy to get rid of this body since it doesn't function anymore to work for BÁBÁ, and she has an intense desire to be reborn quickly in India as a woman to play a vital role in the Proutist revolution.”
“On Tuesday morning, Feb 14th, her pains were so severe that I had to call a doctor who recommended to take her to the hospital 14 Nothelfer in Weingarten, where she was until Friday. The diagnosis: cancer in a final stage with several metastasis in bones and abdomen. No scope for chemo or operations. The only goal was to reduce the severe pains and create a pleasant atmosphere for her passing away. By a miracle (normally they have long waitinglists!) she got a room in the hospice in Wangen (25 km from here). Since she is in the hospital she is under efficient pain-medication, what she clearly requested. Since Saturday, Feb 18th, she did not recognize anyone or respond. While she is here, she has continuously played Kiirtana day and night, also in hospital, where she was offered a single room without the normal surcharge, and now in the hospice.”
On Monday February 20, Gáyattrii left her body to be in Baba’s loving lap. Divyám'shu wrote, “I am still very touched by what happened the last three weeks and just come from the hospice with sad but in a way positive news. Gáyattrii left her body behind on her way to a bright future under BÁBÁ'S love and care. Her face looks so shining and peaceful now after the struggle of the last days."
Ga'yattrii was a great scholar and musician. But, above all, she set a very high standard of devotion and dedication to Baba and His mission. She was and still is a source of inspiration for many by setting an outstanding personal example. We will all miss her so much!

Namaskar,
It's really a great loss to all of us. She was like my elder sister. She always gave me inspiration to carry on with the positive work. My deep reverence and condolences for the great departed soul. Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired.
Kinshuk Ranjan Sarkar
Gayattrii's famous song, Oh Baba Mine:
ReplyDeleteOh Baba mine, Thou art so dear.
Oh Baba mine, Thou art so sweet.
Oh take me in Thy loving arms,
and give me all devotion to Thee.
I see Thee walking in the forest.
I see Thee sitting in the fields.
I see Thee smiling, eyes half-closed.
So full of love, that's how I see You.
Oh now we know the Lord has come.
Awake, awaken all ye souls.
The Lord himself, yes he has come.
And He will bring us back to Him.
Oh light, my light, oh world-filling light.
The skies have opened and the wind runs wild.
The light is streaming throught the clouds.
Oh Baba mine, show me the light.
Thou have made me known to friends I knew not.
Thou have given me seats in home not my own.
And Thou has brought the distance near.
And he who as a stranger is now my brother.
Oh Baba mine, Thou art so dear.
Oh Baba mine, Thou art so sweet.
Oh take me in Thy loving arms,
and give me all devotion to Thee.
Remembering Garda Ghista (part 1)
ReplyDeleteBy Stephen Lendman - Posted on 25 February 2012
On February 20, activist/scholar/author/humanitarian, and dear friend, Garda succumbed to breast cancer.
On February 22, her son Firdaus reported the sad news. Receiving hospice care, she died in southern Germany. She'd been surviving by what she called "a series of miracles." She'll be sorely missed.
Several years ago she moved to India to help feed starving people. Using her own resources and what she could raise, she asked nothing in return.
Months back, she discussed her work on the Progressive Radio News Hour. She asked listeners to help best they could. She explained how little it takes to feed starving people without resources. Without aid, they'll perish.
She advocated Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's philosophy. His spiritual name was Shril Shrii Anandamurti. He was an Indian author, poet, composer, linguist, social revolutionary and philosopher.
He founded Ananda Marga, a spiritual/social organization providing instruction in meditation, yoga, and other self-development practices to anyone wishing to learn them. Affectionately called Baba, he offered various social programs for disadvantaged and other Indians. His writings stressed human welfare and neohumanism.
His work inspired Garda's socio-economic philosophy. She called it PROUT (PROgessive UTilization Theory). "It stands for the progressive utilization and rational distribution of all the earth's natural resources. PROUT advocates another type of revolution called 'nuclear revolution.' "
It reflects "every aspect of collective life - social, economic, political, cultural, psychic and spiritual." It's completely transformative. "New moral and spiritual values arise in society which provide the impetus for accelerated social progress."
A new era replaces an old one. "(O)ne collective psychology is replaced by another. This type of revolution results in an all-round development and social program."
Modern-day world systems destroy life, societies and ecologies. Sustainability's not their mandate. They feature exploitation and plunder. Another way is vital.
Garda's writings discussed constructive alternatives. Her World Prout Assembly (WPA) web site featured them. Her advocacy found expression in them. Her life's work practiced them.
In January 2010, she founded Hearts Healing Hunger. It helps feed hungry people globally. It's also involved in:
building emergency shelters for women and girls victimized by domestic violence and human trafficking;
protecting them from dowry harassment;
building retirement and nursing homes for the needy;
constructing libraries and literacy programs;
establishing medical clinics;
providing micro credit loans; and
helping villages build sustainable water systems, check dams, embankments, drip irrigation, shallow wells, strategically located ponds, river and lakeside plantations, and planting thousands of trees.
Longer-term projects include creating ecologically and economically self-sustainable communities.
Most important is feeding the hungry. Initial Indian venues were established in Siliguri, North Bengal and Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Other feeding centers were planned throughout the country. Achieving them depends on personal donations.
With Garda's death, its site "currently (is) unable to receive money." Hopefully it will again soon under others continuing what she began. Her work's too important to disrupt.

ReplyDeleteBy Stephen Lendman (part 2)
It reflects PROUT's mission "to unite moralists everywhere against exploitation anywhere." It seeks "unsung heros" to confront oppression in all forms, including extremist fundamentalism, fascism, communism, patriarchy, and predatory capitalism.
They threaten all life forms, including planet earth and humanity. "Struggle starts (with) reclaim(ing) economic sovereignty of local communities." PROUT sought to "unite all struggles against oppression into one global struggle (for) one world, one humanity, and one family."
It challenged today's order for what sustainably helps everyone everywhere. WPA headlined, "Economy of the People, For the People and By the People! Put Economic Power in the Hands of the People! Moralists of the world - unite!"
Garda lived what she believed. Her life's mission was helping others by establishing life-sustaining initiatives. She gave all selflessly.
It doesn't get any better than that. This writer was proud to be a friend and ally. Hopefully others will continue her vital work and enlist global support.
With out-of-control imperial wars raging and others planned, as well as deepening economic hardships for growing millions, it's more than ever needed.
Spread the word, and keep Garda's spirit alive.

ReplyDeleteGayattriijii Passes away...,
A Great, Motherly Soul...reminds me of perseverance, commitment, kind of a karma Yogii, example of her own kind, Tirelessly Self-inspired, A True Devotee of Baba deserving special treatment from Mother Nature as she now returns to His Loving Lap. Salutations to the GREAT Proutist and NeoHumanist at heart. May She continue to inspire such values from the Loving lap of Parama Purusa!
In October 2011, I met her by surprise in New Delhi Airport. Baba's arrangement.... I was rushing to the departure area and in the crowd someone waves to me.... Who is this elderly lady?... I come closer and here she was with her big smile... Namaskar!!! Are you an avadhuta of Ananda Marga? I reply in affirmative. She looks straight into my eyes, you must be Ac. Vimalananda, right?... Yes, I confirm. Then we recounted our meetings in the Singapore jagrti... Now she asks fondly of Dhanjoo.... Is he now at Ananda Kanan working for Gurukula University?... She had full update on him. He is hardworking and his efforts could make a difference. I agreed and said we are providing whatever we could at this prevailing situation. Then she talks of the many books she has been working on. And of course she mentions Dhanjoojii's books... all the time smiling…
She was heading to Kolkata from where she had to coordinate some works of her social service projects... Paucity of time and we could not talk much. I was heading for Bangalore... she must wait for the wheelchair as I must rush to the huge security line. I kept thinking of the inspiration she shared with me. I admire her mentally. She looked pale but never lacked the great smile on her face.....Only two days ago again I got a flash of being in front of here and our conversations, repeatedly a number of times. Today I got the sad news...My Salutations to the inspiring face, the committed PROUTIST & the NEOHUMANIST at heart... Condolences to the bereaved family... May Baba Grace them and keep them under His Care and attention they would need at this hour.
