Dada Aksayananda

One of the great devotees, Ac. Aksayananda Avadhuta, breathed his last on 9th May, Wednesday about 9:30 am. When he was rushed to hospital, he was declared dead. A dedicated life had finally come to an end.

He was suffering from liver cancer that was detected in 2003, but he kept it to himself. Ultimately he had to undergo torturous chemo therapy. After three rounds of chemo had been completed, Dada Pranavatmakananda, the Ananda Marga archivist, realized that he had not recorded the remembrances of a worker who was a close associate of Baba for quite a long period. When Dada P. went to see him in May 2004, Aksayananda was reeling with severe pain and was not in a position to speak. Ultimately Dada Aksayananda agreed to speak for five minutes. But as he started speaking about Baba, he could not stop. The noting down of points went on for three hours. He was not aware of time at all and was absorbed completely in Baba's memories.

Something miraculous happened. The acute pain of the torturous cancer vanished like a magic wand. In that concentrated state of mind he was only thinking of Baba and Baba alone. That was a deep state of dhyana (meditation). Baba used to advise cancer patients to do maximum dhyana and drink naturally sweet fruit juice in between. In the case of Dada Aksayanandaji, his meditation came automatically as he was recollecting and narrating his memories of Baba.

He exclaimed, “Pranavatmakananda ji, something has happened. My pain is gone! I feel very relaxed... free from that torturous pain. I will now record more. These memories of Baba is curing me.” Next morning Dada P. again went and the recording went on for a week!

Aksayanandaji was initiated in 1963. Before initiation he happened to meet a Tantrik who told him that he will get the real Guru, an unparalleled Guru. Aksayanandaji was devoted to Lord Krsna and was now awaiting a spiritual push.

Aksayanandaji did not know homoeopathy. But Baba asked him to practice in the Jodhpur Park office garage and he started. Once when Baba was indisposed, He asked Aksayanandaji to be called to give him homoeopathy. Baba told Aksayanandaji what medicine will cure Him. This is how Baba graced Aksayanandaji and made him a homoepath.

The biggest miracle in his life was that he was cured and lived a healthy life for 15 long years to serve humanity. Aksayanandaji utilized this grace to the maximum and treated thousands of patients in Tiljala, Kolkata and other places where patients were waiting for him for hours. He never returned from work before 12 midnight, sometimes past midnight, then he cooked his meal and retired after 2 am. And this he did every day, year after year.
