With deep sadness, we announce the departure of Ácárya Svarúpánanda Avadhúta
(Dadaji). A lovely smile, charming, and sweet Ácárya of Ánanda Márga. He served the
Society as an Ácárya for almost 70 Years.
Dadaji arrived in Singapore on February 12, 2024. A few days later, on Saturday, February
17, he attended an "Akhanda Kiirtana" and meditation session at the Jagrti, which was
organized especially for the Chinese New Year celebration.
Following Svádhyáya, Dadaji was graciously invited by Didi A. Mádhvii to give an
inspirational talk to all the participants.
Among his many sharings, we share one here. Dadaji narrated an interaction with his
Guru Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji, 'Baba', who once said to him:
"This is your third life as a sannyasi."
Dadaji reminisced, "The first life when I was a sannyasi... Baba asked me to go to one
place and told me, 'Close your eyes, then you will be able to see something.' I saw there
was an ashram, and three people were seated in meditation. Baba asked, 'Can you
recognize the third person sitting there?' 'I said... Baba, I think it is me...' Baba said, 'There
you meditated for seventy years.' 'I said, Yes.' 'Baba said, 'When you left your body again,
you were born near that ashram, and again you were born, and again you became a sadhu.
So, that life, you thought, 'That is Ok, I am doing meditation far from society. I must go
to society and do something for society.' That simple desire brought you here, and now
you are doing service to society.' So, from my very childhood, in this life, my intention
was to become a sadhu, to become a sannyasi."
Dadaji continued, "When I started university, I was initiated into meditation, and then I
decided... In those days, in 1960 there was no system of workers (Ácáryas in Ánanda
Márga). So, I came to Baba and said, 'Baba, I want to work for you.' Baba asked, 'What
kind of work can you do here?' I said, 'Baba, I will sell books, the Ánanda Márga
publication books.' Baba said, 'This is a very, very big job.' So, I said, 'Baba, what to do?'
Baba said, 'You go back.' In those days, Ánanda Márga was very, very poor. So, He asked
me to sign up in a college as a professor there. So, I worked there for three or four months.
So, whatever money I got in those days... 275 INR was the pay. So, whatever money I
got, I spent nearly 50INR out of that, and the rest of the money I would give to the Jagrti,
to the General Secretary. Baba said, 'Very good, if we get 10 such boys, our Jagrti, our
ashram will grow.' So that was the standard.
That was the beginning of Ácárya Svarúpánanda Avadhúta's service to society.
Returning to Saturday, February 17, 2024...
Dadaji shared a few more spiritual inspiring stories. After we all gathered for a group photo.
Following this, Márgiis began asking questions to Dadaji, who, with his charm,
sweetness, and lovely smile, entertained them all.
As Dadaji rose from the chair where he had been seated, he gently leaned into the arms
of Brother M. and was slowly helped to lay down in front of Baba’s Photo at 6:25 pm. In
disbelief, our Doctor Márgiis present in the room assisted Dadaji in every possible way.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, an ambulance was called, and within a short
period of time, the paramedical staff arrived. Dadaji was transported to TAN TOCK
SENG HOSPITAL, and at 7:16 pm, he was declared deceased due to a heart attack.
All Márgiis, brothers, and sisters in Singapore share their deep sadness on one side, while
on the other side, they feel blessed to have witnessed the rare event of a great soul
departing his body for a higher spiritual abode, resting in the lap of the Supreme
Consciousness.
