With profound sorrow and deep reverence, we express our heartfelt condolences on the physical departure of Respected Acarya Sumitananda Avadhuta Ji, a senior and highly dedicated sannyasi of Ananda Marga, who left his mortal body last night in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Dada had dedicated more than 60 years of his life as a whole-time worker, beginning his spiritual mission in 1965. He served tirelessly across almost all sectors of the globe, working in some of the most difficult places and numerous countries for Dharma Pracar. His life was a shining example of selfless service, strict discipline, unwavering dedication, and complete adherence to the instructions of Baba.
Despite facing serious health challenges during the last few years, including two major accidents and prolonged medical treatment, Dada remained spiritually strong and inspiring. Yesterday morning, after becoming unconscious, he was admitted to the ICU in Chennai hospital, where he breathed his last around 11:30 PM. He was 82 years old.
He was widely respected as a great pracaraka, known for his hardworking nature, fearless spirit, and remarkable dedication to the mission. He was especially remembered for his powerful Tandava Dance, his strict spiritual discipline, and his caring and supportive guidance toward junior workers. His firmness was always balanced with deep compassion and responsibility.
His physical departure is an irreparable loss to the entire Ananda Marga family. We have lost one of our most experienced, sincere, and hardworking sannyasis. However, his ideals, sacrifices, and immense contributions will continue to inspire generations of margiis and workers on the path of sadhana and service.
We offer our deepest respects and prayers for his onward spiritual journey. May his noble soul merge in the Supreme Consciousness.
Om Shanti, Om Shanti, Om Shanti.
In Him,
Acarya Ramendrananda Avadhuta

Dadaji was a great inspiration to me and many others over so many years. We worked many years together in Nairobi Sector. He was deeply loved there especially in the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). May he rest in peace on Baba’s Loving Lap.
